Homeless people

วันพุธที่ 29 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2552

The scene that man carry kit bags or plastic bags with full of plastic bottles or delve food from the trash can find easily in Thailand especially in Bangkok. Those people are known as ‘homeless people’. Some homeless people are drunk, dirty and have a disease.

The homeless people are not only adults but also children. They live in the public place and sleep at bus stop, sidewalk, railway station, park, etc. As the latest exploration of Nation Statistical Office in year 2008, there’re about 30,000 homeless people who are living around big city especially Bangkok. That’s a large amount of number, which seems to be a big problem in Thailand.
The homeless people are disgusted and look down by others in society but they don’t think that homeless people are like human who need four requisites, which are food, medicine, clothes and habitation, and how do they live without home. In Bangkok, you can see them at Sapanput, Hua Lumphong Station, Mo Chit Station, Lumpini Park, under motorway and under the bridge but the most popular place of homeless people is SanamLuang. You can see them sell the plastic paper, which is use instead of mat at SanamLuang. Some of them collect the bottles and can to but some food but if they can’t sell them they will not have a meal. And the cost of the cans or bottle is only 0.50 baht for each and 1 baht for a plastic bottle. Because they have no money, they have only one meal per day or fast. Another way to survive is begging the food from the monk that means they wait until the monk finish his meal. Moreover there’s a group of those people who have their job but they have no home such as security guard, balloon seller, handbill, distributer, etc.

As I observe, most of them don’t talk to me or some of them try to refuse that they are not homeless people until I found Sunee Meechana or Nok, a homeless woman who collect the plastic bottle at SanamLuang, 38 years old. She told me that it is the ordinarythat the homeless people don’t disclose themselves because they are frightened to be detained in poorhouse. They don’t want to stay there because they are compelled to do anything so they feel uncomfortable. They choose to sleep at roadside, under bridge and park nore than live in poorhouse.

The causes, which make them decide to be homeless people, are poverty, running away from home, old prisoner, unemployed, debtor, vicked people but the family problem is found most. Like uncle Yai, he seems to be the oldest homeless person at SanamLuang. He told me that he was born at Lopburi. He has 4 brothers and 3 sisters. When he was young, he was a bad boy. He didn’t go to school and he was a pickpocket. Last time that he was caught, he was abused by polices then he reform and quit pickpocket because he don’t want to be an old prison. He has started living at SanamLuang for 10 years and sell the amulet for survive. His niece used to take him home but he was fly out because the others in that house don’t like him, they were ironic and disgust him so he doesn’t want to make them annoy.

Every organization tries to solves this problem but this problem will not disappear if you still ignore and disgust them like they are useless, to give them a chance to work is another way to solve this problem. You should think that they are human like us. Everybody was born as a human has equally right the status ‘homeless’ is undeniable for him or her. If they can choose, they would like to have their own home.
Besides, the major cause of this problem is come from the deficient of a family. Nowadays, everybody concern only their duty and sometimes they look over taking care the member in their family. The parents may give their children only money but don’t take care them enough that may occur an inferiority complex for them which convey to the addiction problem and end at leaving their home. If ‘home’ can’t make you feel happy, so which place in this world would make you happy?

Cyber Space: Violate Human Life

Nowadays, Internet users are overwhelmed by the number of sensational video clips that float around cyberspace. Most Internet users are offended by this practice for good reasons: It is against any norm of decency to spread video footage of famous or common people in compromising position.

The fact remains that simply too many internet users are addicted to sensational video clips or pictures, though a line must be drawn how far this sensationalism can be allowed to continue.
In the recent, there is a video clip of two singer girls named “Four-Mod”. In the video clip, they were changing their clothes in the bathroom and they were both naked. This video clip was posted on the Internet, which damages two singers’ reputation.

Even though the police can find the person who took this video clip, the police still cannot be able to arrest the suspect, including the person who posted and send to others. People still keep an eye on the laws, which are related to the protection of citizens’ privacy, is it can possibly effective to protect violation? Due to the nature of technology in all of its applications, it would not be unreasonable to demand that the authorities use the same technology application to police the uploading of video clips that are an obvious violation of any person’s human right.

In other words, entertainment in video clips is a welcome factor; sensationalism resulting in the invasion of privacy is not a proper form of entertainment.

As the emotional and psychological damage to the victims is immense, there is no other way than to put a stop to the wave of privacy violation video clips.

Indeed the Computer-Related offences bill just only declares for the recent years, so it would be effective in a limited number of cases. Where it could be proven that an image was doctored to create a loss of reputation to someone.

However, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has tried to protect people by created a Cyber cops. This group of people has an expert skill to detect the violations in cyber space.

They use highly technological investigation techniques to find the source of any upload. These experts obviously cooperate with the Royal Thai Police on computer crime investigations.

The laws have a problem to catch up with the fast development in technology. The bright side is that the same technological inventions can be used to track down wrongdoers. The invasion of privacy caused by these uploading secretly filmed video clips must be punished. The whole activity of secretly filming video clips all over cyber space is a clear violation of privacy.

Elder way of life in almshouse

Nowadays there are almshouses to support elderly people who don’t have house or their children don’t have time to take care them. That’s good to have great place to support them but what can guarantee that the place is good enough to make both their physical and mental health to be happy.

There are two cases of people who live in almshouse. First, senior citizens who were homeless and don’t have money to buy food or things to supply their daily life. Second, the ones who their children don’t have time to take care of them but prefer to send them there because they believe that such place can provide the better quality of life.

It is predicted to have over 9.7 millions or 15% elders in Thailand by 2017 which the number is dramatically increasing from the past. This will make the almshouse to play more important role in society, due to the overwhelming senior population.

When considering this condition, more questions raise. Can the almshouse be as sweet or as warm as home? Does it take good care of them? Does it what the elderly really want or they just have no choice?

For son or daughter, there are reasons why they bring their parents to almshouses. Nowadays, everyone has to live a rushing live and busy all day. So they won’t have time to take care of their parents. So taking their parents seems to be a good option. That way their parents will have someone who can take care them all the time. Elders will met other elders and become friends. They will become a nice and friendly community. Elders won’t be lonely anymore.

In Thailand have not much almshouse because most of Thais always live in big family there are parents, children and grandparent. But when the children grow up they live their own life, some of old people are neglected just because children don’t have time to take care of their parents. Isn’t it ridiculous when thinking of the whole lifetime that parents take care of them?

Could you please help me buying this garland?

Have you ever been stuck on a street that is full of cars?
It easily causes the moodiness due to the wasted time. Some drivers lost their sixty minutes just to pass through one intersection. However, at the same time, there is some group of people who seems glad with the atmospheres of the traffic jam. Their jobs are selling various kinds of items such as flowers and snacks at the intersection.
Therefore, traffic jam for them means that the drivers would have time during their wait to take a look on what they sell and they may purchase it finally.

The most popular item for their sale is the garland or Thai arrangement of flowers into round figure for decorative and prayerful purposes such as giving honor to adults and paying respect to the Buddha.

However, what is needed to be most considered is that, most of the sellers are not adult but are kids! Kids that their height is just below our eye-level, walking across the street with their minds full of hopes. They wished that they could sell at least one garland every time the traffic light is red. No one knows that how many years they have begun doing their job like this. The only thing we knew is that nowadays, there’re a large number of kids who sell garlands at the intersection and yes, it is too dangerous because they are mostly too short to be seen in the driver’s position. Many people worried about their safety but it seems like no one took action on this issue. This led to number of questions like, why did their parents allow them to sell garlands at the huge intersections? Or were they willing to do these themselves? Or is it some kind of scandalized?

In fact, in Thailand, there is the Acts of Parliament specified that selling goods in public places such as streets and intersections are prohibited. Most people seem not knowing that this regulation exists. It is the public health Act 1992 Section 9 Article 41 specified that no one is allowed to sell any products or services in public places. No matter how they arrange the products or peddle unless they have permission document from the officers.

The solution for this issue seems having no way out yet. Everyone knows what is right or wrong indeed but in reality, it is about sympathy and generousness to other human beings which are totally above the regulation exists. Those kids are too young to organize their own living. What is needed to be done for now is to provide them a save place that they can do their job legally. The government must take responsible seriously for this situation. At least, those kids should be assured about the right they have to have. Lastly, they should not have to say “Could you please help me buying this garland?” for the rest of their childhood life.

Insecurity of Taxi in Bangkok

Is it safe to take a taxi in Bangkok?

As we can learn from all types of media that women were robbed, raped and worst than that sometimes murdered by taxi driver too. People taking taxi as their daily transportation is taking a risk that one day they might be a victim and who will be responsible for the safety of the passengers of taxi in our society. So we will go to see how taxi organization in Bangkok recruit taxi drivers to work and how they deal with the taxi drivers who break the rules?

In greater Bangkok there are two types of taxi. The first type is personal taxi come in yellow-green color which is under the control of Department of Land Transportation directly.

The second type is Taxi Cooperatives. Each Taxi Cooperatives look after company members that handle and responsible for taxi in different colors. Each company member let people who own their own cars to join the company by registering to be a member of the company.

How do they recruit taxi driver?

Taxi cooperative just only control company members that register incorporation with them. Recruitment of taxi driver is the job of each company. They screen taxi driver by looking at the physical characteristic of the applicant, they don’t have any strict rules. Taxi drivers working in each company have to pay deposit as security money in case they causes any damage to the company and cannot pay for it , the company would deduct the money from the security money. But most of the damages are car crash and the taxi driver doesn’t have enough money to pay.

Taxi drivers working in companies under Taxi cooperatives rarely robbed or raped passengers because they are controlled by the company members and the company members are controlled by taxi cooperatives. So each company owner is the most intimate person of taxi driver which is easier to take care than personal taxi. Personal taxis just have their own car and register with Department of Land Transportation then they can go to make money. Taxi drivers have to test for public driving license if they pass they can bring their public driving license to register.

Department of Land Transportation has nothing to do with the taxi drivers doing any harm to the passengers; it is a duty of policemen to implicate with them. Therefore, most of the harm happened with personal taxi because they have no control. If any injured passengers want claim they can claim with policeman and then the policeman will report to Department of Land Transportation for recovering damage.

However, Department of Land Transportation should have more regulations for control and standardize for both types of taxis. New technology such as GPS or radio center that being served by some taxi companies should be used more widely for protecting the safety of the passengers.

I just want to be a woman

In the past, society was very strict, the sex diversities were unacceptable, if you are a man, you must love a woman or if you are a woman, you must love a man but now the society opens much than before, most people accept sex diversities and not discriminate them.

The world treat me like I have no heart, no feeling, I am not a human. When I studying in Master Degree, my college call me a pussy, a gay. Even after graduated when I go to apply for a job, many companies did not admit because I am gay, they afraid that I might make a problem there or may make their company in bad reputation.

Recently, the world is changed, people have their human right more and more, people in society become more equal such as poor people can married to rich people, Thai constitution also launches sections that protect discrimination between people and many organizations arose to ask for human right such as Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand.

Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand or RAST was established officially in 2007 to give information about physical and mental problems of homosexual things and HIV/AIDs information. They also give advice about venereal disease.

Thai constitution also launches sections in the constitution to protect gay people in Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand in section30, “All persons are equal before the law and shall enjoy equal protection under the law. Men and women shall enjoy equal rights. Unjust discrimination against a person on the grounds of the difference in origin, race, language, sex, age, physical or health condition, personal status, economic or social standing, religious belief, education or constitutionally political view, shall not be permitted. Measures determined by the State in order to eliminate obstacle to or to promote persons' ability to exercise their rights and liberties as other persons shall not be deemed as unjust discrimination under paragraph three.” The word sex herein this section does not mean only man and woman but also sex diversities which are gay, lesbian, bisextual.

Equal of disabled

วันอังคารที่ 28 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2552

More than 60 million people in Thailand, and disabled is people who are often overlooked. People think disabled people is a small group of them so they are not necessary to care or pay attention to. So it is no wonder that disabled people may get unequal right or action as normal people.

Thailand is democracy country, the law has a statute which has been for 16 years to protect the rughts and develop life’s quality of the disabled as full body people. Therefore the disabled people in Thailand must get the rights as equal as normal people in almost thing such as rights of facility in building and public transport, rights of do a job and the rights of voter.

Although the law has an obvious statute of disabled rights but taking advantage from disabled still be problem at the present. Hence both of the government and non-government organization have important roles to hekp and support disabled people. The potential of government organization is not enough that lead to the duty of non-government organization.

All non-government organizations get the budget from donation and their sponsor. The important roles of these organizations are support and promote an equal opportunity and full participation for disabled persons in society.

However the accepting from society is very important thing that all disabled need, they just want other people understand and change the idea about disabled in a positive way. Although it will use a time to change idea still hope like that.

Our country is democracracy, all people are democracy but why a small group of people as disabled who left behind in everyday never get the equal as others. So it is time to do for disabled to get a prestige and rights same as people in society.

Violence in Low Cost Apartment

วันอาทิตย์ที่ 26 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2552

Low cost apartment is the great option for people who have the low income or the one who have limited budget for rooms and accommodations.
Especially in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, there are so many low cost apartments around the area because the number of population in Bangkok is increasing every year. As labors from all over the country migrated to work in city area, their choice of places to stay is nowhere except the budget apartments for rent that offer the affordable price for their salary range.

Since the price for renting is very low, so does the living quality of the place that is also reflected by poor security system, bad neighborhood, drug problems and violence. As you can see from the daily newspaper, there are so many crimes and violence which usually occurred in this kind of budget apartments or flats.

Most of violence in the apartment that occurs is always related to the problem about money. Loan shark is one of the major problems for the low income society. Due to the fact that these people with limited knowledge and skills usually can not raise enough money for making a living of their own family or even oneself. Therefore loan shark is one of the easiest ways out to raise quick cash. However, in the end they usually can not pay back the loan, together with the super high amount of interest. That is the violence stating point. Physically abuse will be a result of loan shark problem as the threatening action for paying back money to the loaner.

Sribumpen apartment is the 30 years old apartment which locate near the center of Bangkok and in this apartment have many case about rob, murder and suicide. Such as on 11 April 2008, the man was killed with the knife in his room by his gay partner because the murder has a fight with the dead because he don’t have the money to play back the loan and the dead don’t give him the money, he got angry and dig the dead with a knife 4-5 time and then run away. After they find the body on 11 April 2008 the police arrest the murder in a few days.

Is this problem should be stop? and how?

Police's Right

High risk illness career that devote themselves to citizens

Thai people tend to stick on the road because of traffic jam everyday not just in the morning before going to work but it happens all day. As a result, policemen are playing the important role to solve this problem to make it better. He has to work with heat, burning sun, noise and air polution for all day long. While we just sitting on the air-conditioning car and blame that Thai weather is so hot or stress over the amount of traffic in Bangkok, we might forget to think about others who work hard for our country.

The duties of policeman are oversee, watch over resident and arrest wrongdoer. Thai traffic police has to allocate road and gesticulate cars to lighten up the cars. Policeman has a big responsibility for protecting citizen to live peacefully.

Due to their duty, they have to stay outside the koban for many hours. Thai police have to wear tight uniform. The uniform including, brown stiff military cap or helmet, brown shirt, brown trousers, black belt, black leather boots and mask. This outfit closes almost every part of body from head to toe.

Police uniform has no standard in color, some are dark brown and some are light brown. The fabric is not suitable for working condition, such as it is harder to arrest wrongdoer because the fabric of uniform is thick, heavy, inelastic and too tight. It is awkward to move and easy to be torn. The uniform should ventilate the air because Thailand is a tropical country. Policemen have to expose to the sun for many hours which can lead them to dehydration and faint. Moreover, the boots is not proper for Thai weather. Although it seems like little things, it can lead disease to them, such as Tinea, Athlete's foot. These are not a small problem for people’s health.

Despite police has good welfare for nursing and the cooperate from the division, it is not fair for them to take the risk with their health. It is a people’s life. They are human being. They should have rights to be healthy. They should have equipment that meets the standard and good quality for their career. The division should take more serious about these problems.

Nowadays, we might experience with bad policemen who squeeze out and corrupt residents’ money. On the other hand, our country still have good policeman. We should consider to the goodness that he sacrificed to us. They have to work very hard and devote themselves for our society.
